Pet Routine Screening Bloodwork in Sutter Creek, CA
Dr. Alli recommends routine screening bloodwork once a year for all pets over the age of 2. This internal health check complements the external health check (physical exam)to provide a comprehensive view of a pet’s overall health status.
- Routine bloodwork also provides baseline values in the event that your pet ever gets sick, then we have individual “normals” to compare to and trends to monitor.
- Routine bloodwork screens consist of a complete blood count (CBC) and a chemistry panel. These tests screen for common diseases including diabetes, liver and kidney disease, anemia, and Cushing’s disease, among many others. Early detection of these diseases means we can start treatment earlier, helping your pet to live longer. It also allows for diagnosis when your pet is still feeling well (asymptomatic), preventing your pet from feeling sick from their disease.
- Ruling out these underlying conditions will allow your vet to prescribe medications (if needed) that may otherwise be contraindicated. Routine bloodwork screens will also be performed prior to any anesthesia or surgery on your pet, to ensure that your pet does not have any conditions that may make anesthesia or surgery more dangerous for them.
- For our senior patients that are 8 years old and older, a blood pressure check, thyroid level, and urinalysis are included in routine screening bloodwork.
